Scholarship Description
APAs are funded by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR) and are available to Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens and Australian Permanent Residents. Macquarie University will have a number of APA scholarships to support exceptional students to undertake higher degree research in any field of study Semester 1, 2011. These highly competitive scholarships are awarded on academic merit and research capacity and experience. Subject to satisfactory progress these awards are tenable for 2 years for a research Masters degree and 3 years for a PhD. A 6 month extension for PhD students is possible. The 2010 stipend is $22,500 p.a (full-time); the 2011 stipend rate is to be confirmed. Benefits include living, relocation and thesis allowance. This scholarship is offered annually to 60 people. Open for applications until October 31, 2010.
Payment Information
The value of this scholarship is AUD22500 (maximum per annum). This award is to be used for research, living expenses and fees. This scholarship is paid fortnightly for the period of 2 years if masters or 3 years if PhD.

This scholarship is for one of the following fields of research: AGRICULTURAL, VETERINARY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES, BEHAVIOURAL AND COGNITIVE SCIENCES, BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES, CHEMICAL SCIENCES, COMMERCE, MANAGEMENT, TOURISM AND SERVICES, EARTH SCIENCES, ECONOMICS, EDUCATION, ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY, HISTORY AND ARCHAEOLOGY, INFORMATION, COMPUTING AND COMMUNICATION SCIENCES, LANGUAGE AND CULTURE, LAW, JUSTICE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT, MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES, MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES, PHILOSOPHY AND RELIGION, PHYSICAL SCIENCES, POLICY AND POLITICAL SCIENCE, SCIENCE - GENERAL, SOCIAL SCIENCES, HUMANITIES AND ARTS - GENERAL, STUDIES IN HUMAN SOCIETY or THE ARTS. It is required that your study starts no earlier than January 1, 2011 and no later than June 30, 2011.
Eligibility
This scholarship is for study in Australia for those who have achieved Honours 1 or equivalent. Only citizens of Australia or New Zealand or AUS permanent resident can apply.
