RMIT & Defence Science and Technology Organisation PhD Scholarship
Scholarship Description
The School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, RMIT University, has a world-renowned reputation for research in the field of composite materials and structures, with a research team that currently includes five academic staff and about 15 postgraduate students. RMIT and the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) are collaborating as part of the Defence Materials Technology Centre’s (DMTC) armour development project. The research involves investigating the ballistic performance of advanced composite materials for vehicle armour applications. As a PhD student, you will conduct an experimental and numerical investigation into the ballistic performance of composite materials. The experimental investigation will focus on characterising material performance at ballistic-representative strain rates together with DMTC partners, and conducting ballistic impact trials at local firing ranges. A material model will be developed based on the experimental results.
