PhD Scholarships APA(I) (Firewatch)

Scholarship Description

FireWatch is an online service provided by Landgate WA which enables emergency services professionals to manage bushfire using satellite data received in near real time. This project aims to make FireWatch more useful for ordinary people. The applicant for this position will work alongside an already appointed PhD student who will be using best practice information design and visual communication theory to redesign the FireWatch website. The task for the second PhD student will be to harness contemporary knowledge about communities and the internet to empower a regional community to use FireWatch for managing bushfire risk. WA's Kimberley region will be the trial regional area with both online and on the ground fieldwork required. This research offers an exceptional opportunity to work on a problem of vital importance and to demonstrate competence valued both in academia and industry.
