Justice and Social Inclusion

Scholarship Description

Within the Cairns Institute, the Research Group on Justice & Social Inclusion has a strong focus on criminology and socio-legal studies. We are offering a PhD scholarship broadly focused on postcolonial perspectives and criminology. In particular we are seeking a critically engaged student with an interest in exploring Indigenous justice issues, either in Australia or within an international context. The potential exploration of these issues might be theoretically oriented, comparative, through an analysis of thematic issues (such as human rights, self-determination, governance, etc) or through empirical studies of particular problems or issues (for example, policing, corrections, violence against women, deaths in custody, etc). This is an exciting opportunity to work in an innovative environment with a strong commitment to social justice.
