PhD Scholarship at UNSW in Reuse of Reverse Osmosis Membranes
Scholarship Description
A PhD scholarship is available via a Grant from the National Centre of Excellence for Desalination (2010-2013) that will investigate the potential for developing reuse/recycling protocols and disposal options for aged reverse osmosis membranes. Project description: The fate of spent reverse osmosis (RO) membranes appears as an emerging challenged faced by the water industry. In this project, alternative and valuable usages of end-of-life desalination membranes will be investigated. Opportunities like cost effective reuse in lower specification applications, potential recycling of valuable materials and conversion of RO into microporous separation devices will be assessed both technically and financially. •This project will be based in the UNESCO Centre for Membrane Science and Technology within the School of Chemical Engineering, UNSW, Sydney. •The suitable candidate will have a background in either chemical or environmental engineering, chemistry or environmental sciences.
