PhD scholarship: Social and Economic Factors Affecting Indigenous Engagement in Aquaculture
Scholarship Description
This scholarship is funded by the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation, one of Australia’s premier R&D agencies. The candidate will work in collaboration with the NT government’s Fisheries Group, using current Indigenous aquaculture development initiatives as case studies. Aquaculture is often thought to offer a means of economic development and employment for Indigenous peoples in remote localities, yet Indigenous Australians remain under-represented in the industry. This study will require the successful candidate to work with Aboriginal people of the Goulburn Islands and Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, and with staff of the Northern Territory Fisheries Department, to research factors that will better enable Indigenous peoples to be more fully engaged in aquaculture ventures.
