Top-up PhD Scholarship Stipends in Biocatalysis

Scholarship Description

The Environmental Biocatalysis team is internationally recognised for its work on the interaction between the biocatalysts used by all organisms (enzymes) and their environment. The group has deep interests in the mechanisms by which novel biologies evolve at a molecular level. We address questions about the diversity and evolution of new enzyme function using state of the art techniques, such as comparative genomics, metabolomics, bioinformatics and in vitro evolution and enzyme engineering. In addition to our focus on the fundamental question of how new enzyme function arises, we are working to develop a range of enzyme-based technologies for use in the protection of the environment and sustainable agriculture and on enabling technologies for enzyme-based biotechnology innovations. The top-up awards are offered at $7,000 per annum and are intended for prospective students who already hold and independent/transferable scholarships, such as APA.
