PhD - Lexy Davies Estate Scholarship
Scholarship Description
The position is funded by the Lexy Davies Estate Fund for the purpose of research into arthritis, with particular attention to the study of osteoarthritis. This PhD scholarship is to support research examining methods to improve outcomes in patients with gout. The focus will be upon enhancing the use of medicines that reduce plasma uric acid safely in patients and thereby reduce the incidence of attacks of gout. The strategy for individual patients will be individualised according to their characteristics and responses to urate-lowering medicines. Implementing evidence-based interventions in the community is proposed. The position is full-time for a fixed term of 3 years based at the Therapeutics centre, St. Vincent’s Hospital Sydney. The scholarship is an APAI equivalent. The successful applicant may be required to undertake a criminal record check.

This scholarship is offered once only to one person. Open for applications from July 20, 2010 until March 31, 2011.
Payment Information
The value of this scholarship is AUD27222 (per annum). This award is to be used for research. This scholarship is paid fortnightly for the period of 3 years, reviewed annually.
Research Information
This scholarship is for one of the following fields of research: MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES or SCIENCE - GENERAL. It is required that your study starts no earlier than August 16, 2010 and no later than August 16, 2013.
Eligibility
This scholarship is for study in Australia for those who have achieved Honours 1 or equivalent. Only citizens of Australia or AUS permanent resident can apply.
