Mechanisms of Cell Growth and Repair PhD Scholarship

Scholarship Description

We seek to recruit an outstanding and highly motivated PhD Student as part of an exciting research program expansion. The Laboratory for Muscle Research & Therapeutics Development (led by Dr Paul Gregorevic) is focused on identifying the mechanisms associated with regulation of cell size and repair. Special emphasis is placed on understanding acute signal transduction and mRNA/miRNA interactions regulating transcription & translation. This work is key to the development of new approaches to prevent & treat serious conditions associated with human frailty, metabolic and cardiovascular disease. Training will be provided for new methods when required, but particular consideration will be given to applicants that have experience with tissue culture, assessment of signalling protein abundance and phosphorylation, DNA cloning, quantitative PCR, and transcriptional profiling. Attention to detail, and the ability to work both as part of the team and also independently are essential.
