MQ Physics: Miniature waveguide Raman and diamond Raman lasers

Scholarship Description

A full-time PhD scholarship is available in Physics, MQ Photonics Research Centre, at Macquarie University. Lasers based on stimulated Raman scattering are versatile devices with a large range of applications spanning medicine, telecommunications, defence and environmental sensing. Major challenges include the creation of low-loss waveguide structures, and radiation coupling to these structures. The ideal candidate will have an interest in optical waveguides (including whispering gallery mode resonators), nonlinear optics, laser design and their underpinning theories. Prospective applicants should, in the first instance submit a cover letter detailing relevant experience, a CV and an academic transcript to the principal supervisor, A/Prof Richard Mildren. Refer to: http://www.hdr.mq.edu.au/information_about/applications for application instructions and quote the allocation number 2010147 on your application.
