Scholarship Description
Several PhD positions are now available in the Complex Systems in Biology Group at the University of New South Wales. Infections such as HIV, tuberculosis and malaria impact upon the lives of hundreds of millions of people each year in the developing world. The projects available aim to understand the basic dynamics and progression of infectious diseases, and ultimately how these infections can be controlled by vaccination. There are a variety of projects available which involve mathematical modeling / simulation / bioinformatics / biostatistics. The position would suit candidates with a strong background in a quantitative science such as mathematics / physics / chemistry / computing / statistics. No prior experience in biology is required – just a strong quantitative background and a willingness to learn new ideas. The Complex Systems in Biology Group currently consists of a team of 13 researchers who produce >10 publications per year.

Payment Information
The value of this scholarship is AUD25000 (per annum). This award is to be used for living expenses. This scholarship is paid fortnightly for the period of 3 years.

Eligibility
This scholarship is for study in Australia for those who have achieved Honours 1 (Semester 1), Honours 1 or equivalent, Honours 2a or equivalent, or Masters or equivalent.
