Scholarship Description
Available wind energy can be greatly enhanced by local wind speed-up caused by escarpments, cliffs or hills, and this is usually a significant factor in deciding placement of wind turbines. The spped-up just above the top edge of a cliff-top is greatest when the oncoming wind is directed normal to the ridgeline, but such an alignment is unlikely in practice. This industry-supported research project aims to investigate the influence of oncoming wind direction on turbulent flow characteristics around escarpments, using computer simulation. This scholarship is offered once only to one person. Open for applications from January 12, 2010 until March 30, 2010.
Payment Information
The value of this scholarship is AUD26667 (per annum). This award is to be used for research and living expenses. This scholarship is paid fortnightly for the period of 3 years.
Research Information
This scholarship is for one of the following fields of research: Aerospace engineering or Mechanical and industrial engineering. It is required that your study starts no earlier than January 30, 2010.
Eligibility
This scholarship is for study in Australia for those who have achieved Honours 2a or equivalent.
