Plant Biosecurity Scholarship

Scholarship Description

The Cooperative Research Centre for National Plant Biosecurity is seeking a PhD candidate to conduct a study on the development of a novel method for the control of the Queensland fruit fly and the development of a control method for likely exotic incursions, which is target-specific and able to penetrate areas that chemical applications cannot. An understanding of the parasitoids’ host searching behaviour in the Australian environment will enable an alternative or more precise response to future fruit fly incursions, in addition to enhanced control of Queensland fruit fly. The student will gain a broad education in fruit fly eradication and control, with broad ranging entomology skills, and expertise in the horticultural industry that will be highly employable and contribute significantly to Australia’s biosecurity capacity. The PhD student will be enrolled at Charles Sturt University and will work closely with staff at the NSW Department of Primary Industries.
