PhD Scholarship – Process Modelling in Metals Production
Scholarship Description
Deakin, Delft, Newcastle, Swinburne and Wollongong Universities are collaborating on an Australian Research Council funded "Discovery" project (DP0879319) on "Development of new steel products by thin strip casting and direct thermomechanical processing". Thin strip casting offers a greener way of producing a wide range of advanced steel products but is technically challenging. The overall project spans casting from liquid to rolling of the solid metal. The Swinburne contribution focuses on the development of microstructure and properties in the solid state using both experiment and simulation. The project will suit someone with a materials or mechanical engineering background, or someone with knowledge of advanced materials modelling techniques. This project comes with a PhD scholarship. Supervisor: Prof. John Beynon (Swinburne University of Technology); Co-supervisor: Prof. Peter Hodgson (Deakin University)
