Justice for All: A History of the Victorian Community Legal Centre ARC PhD Scholarship

Scholarship Description

For more than 30 years, community legal centres have been providing advice, representation and advocacy for a wide range of people frequently ill-served by the legal system. Candidate will examine the Community Legal Centre movement's changing relationships with ethnic groups, its involvement in campaigns for migrant rights, and its advocacy and legal reform work in regard to language and cultural differences. These are relatively unexplored issues in the scholarship on Australian multiculturism, diversity and social justice. The project offers an ideal opportunity for interdisciplinary research training in qualitative research methods, documentary analysis and oral history. Scholarship holder will enjoy opportunities for publishing and play a crucial role in the public events, including forums, and the development of web-based resources.
