ARC Linkage PhD
Scholarship Description
Refrigerated display cabinets are found in supermarkets and other retail outlets. The air curtain at the front of the cabinet acts as a barrier between the warm air of the store and the cool cabinet interior but this results in inefficient refrigeration. This inefficiency manifests in the form of increased cost to the retail industry, discomfort causing air spillage to consumers and increased usage of energy. Using computational fluid dynamics modelling and experimental techniques (including laser measurement systems), the design will be analysed and modified, to become more efficient. This will assist Australia to meet the present and future international climate obligations by contributing to the reduction of greenhouse emissions.
