MD/ PhD - Andrology / Diabetes Research

Scholarship Description
A funded MD/ PhD position is available at the Department of Medicine, University of Melbourne located at Austin Health from February 2008. The goal of this project is to assess prospectively, in men with type 2 diabetes and low testosterone levels, the effect of testosterone therapy on a variety of parameters including insulin resistance, glycaemic control, body composition and hypogonadal symptoms. This position would suit an advanced trainee in endocrinology intending to pursue a higher degree who fulfills the University of Melbourne eligibility criteria to undertake a MD/ PhD degree. The scholarship will provide a tax-free stipend for full-time study for up to three years, subject to satisfactory progress. Payment will be according to NHMRC biomedical and public health stipend rates. The successful candidate will be expected to apply for competitive funding.
