Scholarship Description

The Complex Systems in Biology research group at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, is offering scholarship supplements for Australian or University Postgraduate Awards (APA/UPA) for students with a strong undergraduate record to commence a PhD in quantitative and computational biology / bioinformatics. Students with backgrounds in mathematics, statistics, physics, bioinformatics, computing science, biology, or other scientific field, are sought to work on projects aimed at understanding immune responses to infectious diseases. No prior experience in biology is required – just a strong quantitative background and a willingness to learn new ideas. The Complex Systems in Biology group utilises theoretical, mathematical, statistical, computer modelling and bioinformatics approaches to better our understanding of biological processes that occur at the molecular, cellular, and population level. Payment Information

The value of this scholarship is AUD8000 (maximum per annum). This award is to be used for living expenses. This scholarship is paid fortnightly for the period of 3 years.

Research Information

This scholarship is for one of the following fields of research: BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES, Immunology, Mathematics, Other information, computing and communication sciences or Statistics. It is required that your study starts no earlier than January 1, 2008 and no later than January 1, 2011.

Eligibility

This scholarship requires you to have achieved Honours 1 or equivalent.
