Scholarship Description

A scholarship is available for PhD study at the Melbourne Law School under the auspices of an ARC Federation Fellowship. The project being undertaken by Prof Tim Lindsey aims to achieve a better understanding of Islam, governance and terrorism in Southeast Asia and to strengthen Australian capacity to navigate our regional relationships. The recipient of the Scholarship will be expected to directly focus on one or more of the following Fellowship themes: *Islam and the Challenge of Modernity in Southeast Asia *Mapping New Approaches to ¯¯¯Islamic¯¯¯ Governance in Southeast Asia *Militancy and Syari¯¯¯ah in Southeast Asia. The student selected will possess strong analytical and communication skills, enthusiasm for research and a commitment to complete a PhD degree and will demonstrate exceptional scholarly capacity and relevant knowledge. The student selected must have published an academic refereed journal article, chapter in an edited book or extract from a monograph.

Availability

This scholarship is offered once only to one person. Open for applications until December 1, 2006.

Payment Information

The value of this scholarship is AUD25000 (maximum per annum). This award is to be used for living expenses. This scholarship is paid fortnightly for the period of 3 years.

Research Information

This scholarship is for one of the following fields of research: Law. It is required that your study starts no later than March 31, 2007.

Eligibility

This scholarship is for study in Australia for those who have achieved Honours 1 or equivalent, or Honours 2a or equivalent. Only citizens of Australia or New Zealand or permanent residents can apply.
