Scholarship Description

One of the objectives of the UNU-IAS is to provide young scientists with an opportunity to expand their intellectual vision beyond the single scientific field that they may be engaged in. UNU-IAS offers an environment conducive to such an expansion by offering an environment for young scholars to work among a group of complementary scholars. The PhD Fellowship programme offers financial and material support to two candidates from educational institutions around the world to participate in, and enrich, this scientific environment. With a view to strengthening capacity building in developing countries, students from developing countries (particularly from developing country institutions) are especially encouraged to apply. UNU-IAS provides fellows with accommodation and return air tickets between his/her country of residence and Narita Airport. The period of the fellowship is approx 10 months. This scholarship is now closed. 2009 details will be available later in the year.

Payment Information

The value of this scholarship is JPY260000 (maximum per month). This award is to be used for accommodation, research, living expenses, travel and fees. This scholarship is paid monthly.

Research Information

This scholarship is for one of the following fields of research: BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES, CHEMICAL SCIENCES, EARTH SCIENCES, EDUCATION, POLICY AND POLITICAL SCIENCE, SCIENCE - GENERAL or STUDIES IN HUMAN SOCIETY. It is required that your study starts no earlier than October 1, 2008.
